Speaker: Chuck McClung

A Strawberry is not a Fruit And Other Lesser Known Perspectives from the World of Plants is the latest book by Chuck McClung, a lifelong plant enthusiast, gardening mentor, landscaping consultant and author. Chuck will inform, inspire, and entertain with lesser appreciated perspectives from the world of plants.

Speakers: Donna McClay and Carol Morgan

UC Master Food Preservers, Donna McClay & Carol Morgan, will share opportunities for maximizing a good harvest and enjoying seasonal produce year-round. They will demonstrate techniques and equipment for safe food preservation, & share award-winning holiday recipes and ideas for holiday food gifts.

Growing Opportunities: A Second Chance

Speaker: April Lowe

Learn about The Second Chance Growing Opportunities program that gives young offenders at the San Diego Youth Transition Campus a hands-on experience with urban agriculture, including gardening, cooking, and sales and marketing skills. April Lowe, a Master Gardener, retired law enforcement officer and part-time horticulture teacher, will share how this unique rehabilitation project works.

Roy Wilburn, PVGC Member and Horticulture Director for Sinceri/Poway Gardens and its Backyard Produce operation, will describe tomato varieties that thrive in our region and share tips on how to succeed in your tomato and herb-growing efforts (plant now!).

Speaker: Patricia Simpson

San Diego County is a biodiversity hotspot for both plants & pollinators. Patricia Simpson, Naturalist at Cabrillo National Monument, will be talking about native bees and the plants they depend on in the county. Discover our native bees’ fascinating natural history and learn about the challenges they face today. Explore their diversity and beauty and learn about some of the native plants that can support them year-round.
